چکیده

Temporal studies that would offer insight into resilience of ectomycorrhizal (ECM) communities in stress prone climates are scarce despite their role tree nutrition and water supply. Our study characterized the vitality, community composition, diversity, function Quercus pubescens Willd. ECM fungi Sub-Mediterranean stress-prone environment for 2 consecutive years (June 2016–May 2018) related investigated measures to environmental parameters. was assessed species actively associating with root tips exploring soil volume through assessment mycelial ingrowth sand-filled mesh bags. The period by a drier than average summer combined wildfire 2016 followed another dry 2017. vital non-vital tip ratio decreased below one August remained low until January 2018. This ascribed series events occurred at site including sequential droughts wildfire. most abundant lineages on were Tomentella other Thelephoraceae, Sebacina , Cenococcum while bags Tomentella, Sebacina, Pseudotomentella Pyronemataceae, Inocybe, Cortinarius Agaricales, Boletales lineages. High intra-site variability observed, directly associated varying significantly among plots. Community composition stable over time, richness varied mean air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation. exploration type observed this short distance, which precipitation along long distance type. medium temporally variable responded temperature humidity reflecting seasonality site. presented results indicate complex relationships between parameters, abiotic stress, fungi.

Chronic Drought Decreases Anabolic and Catabolic BVOC Emissions of Quercus pubescens in a Mediterranean Forest

Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOC) emitted by plants can originate from both anabolism (metabolite production through anabolic processes) and catabolism (metabolite degradation by oxidative reactions). Drought can favor leaf oxidation by increasing the oxidative pressure in plant cells. Thus, under the precipitation decline predicted for the Mediterranean region, it can be expected both...

Fine-scale distribution of pine ectomycorrhizas and their extramatrical mycelium.

In order to clarify the functional role of individual ectomycorrhizal (EcM) fungal species in the field, we need to relate their abundance and distribution as mycorrhizas to their abundance and distribution as extramatrical mycelium (EMM). We divided each of four 20 cm x 20 cm x 2 cm slices of pine forest soil into 100 cubes of 2 cm x 2 cm. For each cube, ectomycorrhizas were identified and the...

Isoprenoid emission in trees of Quercus pubescens and Quercus ilex with lifetime exposure to naturally high CO2 environment

We investigated the long-term effect of elevated atmospheric CO2 on isoprenoid emissions from adult trees of two Mediterranean oak species (the monoterpene-emitting Quercus ilex L. and the isoprene-emitting Quercus pubescens Willd.) native to a high-CO2 environment. During two consecutive years, isoprenoid emission was monitored both at branch level, measuring the actual emissions under natural...

Molecular identification of ectomycorrhizal mycelium in soil horizons.

Molecular identification techniques based on total DNA extraction provide a unique tool for identification of mycelium in soil. Using molecular identification techniques, the ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungal community under coniferous vegetation was analyzed. Soil samples were taken at different depths from four horizons of a podzol profile. A basidiomycete-specific primer pair (ITS1F-ITS4B) was use...

Diversity and fruiting patterns of ectomycorrhizal and saprobic fungi in an old-growth Mediterranean forest dominated by Quercus ilex L

We collected and mapped epigeous fruitbodies of both ectomycorrhizal (ECM) and saprobic fungi in an oldgrowth Quercus ilex L. Mediterranean forest within a permanent transect of 6400 m2 over three consecutive fruiting seasons. Out of 5382 fruitbodies, a total of 234 species were found, including 166 and 68 ECM and saprobic taxa, respectively. Both communities were mainly composed of rare specie...
